Competency

To enable workplace reform and skills recognition, the Manufacturing and Engineering industry developed Industry Competency Standards.  These provided a benchmark for recognising and rewarding skills.

A competency consists of the specification and the application of knowledge and skill to the standard of performance required in “the workplace”.Industry competency standards represent an aggregate view of the skill requirements and expectations of “typical” workplaces.  They are a commonly accepted description of performance that serves as an industry benchmark.
